I am pleased to share with you a ‘first-of-its-kind’ opportunity in Maine that I expect will be appealing to many of you. In partnership with The Source School and the University of Southern Maine, MSMA is excited to announce The Maine High Schools Civic Assembly. This is an opportunity for students and adults (educators and/or school board members) to come together and provide a detailed and substantive implementation guide for Maine schools as they navigate Maine’s new Phone-free Schools requirement. Fundamental in the successful implementation of a Phone-free Schools Policy (once the novelty of the new policy has diminished) is examining what student needs these powerful cellphones have been meeting for students during school and determining how those needs will now be met when devices are stowed away during school. That’s where The Maine High Schools Civic Assembly comes in! Schools are invited to participate by registering their team of at least 3 students and 1 adult. Local school board members are encouraged to discuss this opportunity with their superintendent who will likely loop in the high school principal or assistant principal as teams are formed.
