Andrew Dolloff Named Maine Superintendent of the Year

Maine’s 2021 Superintendent of the Year is no stranger to educators across Maine.   A 33-year veteran of Maine’s Public Schools, Dr. Andrew Dolloff says coaching school leaders in his district is one of the more enjoyable aspects of his job as superintendent.  The generous manner in which he shares his ideas, resources and his sense of humor has benefitted many of Maine’s public educators.

Dr. Dolloff was nominated by a member of his school board, who described him as an exemplary superintendent who leads with strength and courage.  His exceptional communication skills have earned him the respect from his community, staff and school board.

Dr. Dolloff has provided leadership for learning to ensure equity of access and opportunity for all students.  Making sure the needs of every student are met is the centerpiece for the district’s work and supports its mission, which is to empower students.

Developing a professional culture is another strong focus for Dr. Dolloff. He has collaboratively crafted an evaluation system that recognizes the time school leaders need to provide authentic feedback and help teachers improve their practice.   He also has worked hard to develop innovative approaches to professional development. Using the expertise of his own staff, he has implemented “Ed Camps” and “Un-Conferences” where staff develop their own agendas on workshop days to ensure that meaningful sharing and learning is done.

Born and bred in Maine and a product of Maine Public Schools, Dr. Dolloff, started his career as a high school chemistry teacher. He served as the Athletic Director, Principal and Assistant Superintendent to the Scarborough School Department prior to serving as the Superintendent of Schools in RSU 21 and now the Yarmouth School Department.

Dr. Dolloff was named Maine’s High School Principal of the year in 2004.  He received Maine’s School Superintendents Association Outstanding Leadership Award in 2017 and the New England League of Middle Schools Outstanding Superintendents Award in 2020.

Committed to community involvement, he has served as a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House, has been the Education Division Representative for the United Way of Greater Portland and is the current chairperson for the University of Southern Maine’s Leadership Advisory Board.

Dr. Andrew Dolloff received the Maine 2021 Superintendent of the Year award at the Maine School Superintendents Association annual meeting, held virtually in late October.
