Dear Maine School Leaders,
On behalf of the Maine School Management Association (MSMA), I am pleased to introduce Christopher Smith as our new Risk & Safety Manager.
Chris brings a strong background in operational leadership, compliance, and risk management. He joins MSMA after more than 18 years of management and analytical experience with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. In addition, his service as a U.S. Army officer reflects a disciplined, thoughtful, and strategic approach to supporting safe and secure environments—an approach that will serve our members well.
In his role with MSMA, Chris will be a key resource for our Workers’ Compensation and Property & Casualty Insurance member districts. His work will focus on partnering with school administrative units to strengthen safety practices, reduce risk, and support compliance. This includes assisting with risk mitigation strategies, advancing safety program development, and providing direct, responsive support to members.
