On Wednesday, Gov. Mills released her supplemental budget proposal (just a proposal), with several issues affecting education:

Maintaining 55 Percent Education Funding
Increasing the Minimum Teacher Salary to $50,000 by 2029: The Governor's
budget proposal would increase the minimum salary to $45,000 in the Fall of
2027, $47,500 in the Fall of 2028, and $50,000 in the Fall of 2029.
Implementing a Ban on Cell Phones in Schools
School Bus Safety: The Governor is also proposing to spend about $5.9 million
(from the state's Rainy Day Fund) to pay to retrofit all Maine school buses that
do not have school bus crossing arms and/or anti-pinch door sensors.
AI Guidance for Schools: The Governor is also proposing to spend
approximately $500,000 for the Department of Education to expand its "Artificial
Intelligence Guidance Toolkit and to provide grants to school administrative
units, non-profits, universities, or professional organizations which provide
professional development or planning to educators related to artificial
intelligence."
