Survey explores barriers to school district sharing – December 21, 2016
The Maine Department of Education is looking for feedback from school leaders on identifying barriers and challenges that prevent school districts from sharing programs and services. MSBA and MSSA are urging members to fill out the survey because it could support legislation put in on behalf of MSBA to remove those barriers.
The bill put in on behalf of MSBA is titled: An Act to Remove Barriers to School Unit Collaboration, Cooperation and Innovation. It was supported by a resolution at Delegate Assembly in October. The resolution reads:
School Unit Collaboration The Maine School Boards Association directs MSMA staff to prepare and submit to the First Regular Session of the 128th Maine Legislature a package of legislative proposals to facilitate voluntary joint efforts to improve educational outcomes for students by clarifying and strengthening the statutes relating to inter-local cooperation and by eliminating unnecessary legal barriers to cooperation among the different types of Maine school units.
