Governor temporarily withdraws Beardsley nomination for commissioner
Governor Paul LePage today announced the temporary withdrawal of his nomination of Dr. Bill Beardsley as commissioner of the Maine Department of Education.
According to a press release sent by his office, the Governor halted the nomination upon learning Democratic members of the Education Committee plan to reject Dr. Beardsley’s confirmation for what he called “political reasons unrelated to his qualifications for the job”. The nomination hearing was set for Feb.17. Gov. LePage said he will put Dr. Beardsley up for nomination again at a later date. “Let me be perfectly clear: I have enormous respect for Dr. Beardsley, and I have full confidence in his qualifications,” the governor said.
