Come rally at Statehouse May 27 for public education funding
We are in the final days of budget negotiations that will determine how much money will be given to public schools next year to cover rising costs and lower an unprecedented local tax burden that, if not addressed, could mean more school budgets will fail at the ballot box.
Your voice is important. We ask you to come to Augusta on Wednesday, May 27, and rally in the Statehouse for support of public education this year, and in years to come. The theme of this rally is “Invest in Kids” – a message we must get across to our legislators.
Come to the Cross Office Café in the bottom floor of the Cross Office building (next to the Statehouse) to register, starting at 10:30. You will then join fellow board members from across the state to walk together to the rally, which is being held at 11:30 in the Hall of Flags, second floor of the Statehouse.
This rally is important not just for the current year, but to help set the stage for a plan to increase state funding for public education long term. With state share of education at 46 percent, we have a long way to go to hit the voter-required 55 percent share our students deserve.
