Ask your legislators to protect local control of public schools – June 7, 2019
L.D. 240, An Act To Allow Public Employers of Teachers to Negotiate Regarding Educational Policies, that will take away local control over public schools and raise property taxes was tabled in the House this morning because the bill apparently didn’t have the votes to pass.
We need your help this weekend to reach out to your legislators, once again, and sustain opposition to this bill. The pressure around it is intense.
Explain that if educational policy becomes negotiable, it will take the public out of the conversation and allow critical decisions around how schools are run to be made behind closed doors. If your legislators are with you on this bill, thank them for their vote.
You may hear the bill, which originally called for making all education policy negotiable, was pared back. But make no mistake. If even one area of education policy is made negotiable, the teacher’s union will be back again in the next legislative session to go after more.
We expect the bill to be taken up Monday, so weekend calls are necessary.
