Since the 1970's Maine School Management Association has administered various insurance programs for member school districts. This was a result of changes in laws and changes in the insurance market place. The trusts are overseen by individual boards of trustees appointed by the MSMA Action and Policy Committees. These boards are comprised of superintendents, business managers, school board members and teachers. The trustees of each program set the policies and direction for each trust under recommendations provided by the fund managers.
Currently MSMA administers the following insurance programs:

Dental
Life
Long Term Disability
Short Term Disability
Flexible Benefits (Section 125)
Unemployment Compensation
Workers Compensation
Property & Casualty
